Social Justice Ministry

This committee meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 pm in the school library.  Anyone interested is very welcome to attend.  Have a question?  Call Donna Gauthier 401-738-6572.  We have partnered our efforts with the West Warwick satellite for Catholic Charities.  They service all of the Kent County area.

Helping Hands Ministry:Members knit and crotchet items such as prayer shawls which are donated to home-bound and ill parishioners and friends.  Knitted items are also donated to cancer patients and newborns at Kent Hospital.

Gabriel Project/ Baby Shower: The mission of the Gabriel Project is to respect all life and to reach out to women who are pregnant, desperate, and in need, through a confidential intervention program to help make things easier for mothers- to- be in a personal and local way. Access to social services is provided through the Diocese of Providence’s Social Ministries and serve as a conduit to the assistance available through other agencies. Help is provided in various ways such as new cribs, clothing, diapers strollers, and other baby items, as well as offering support, love, and spiritual help in a spirit of Christian love and friendship by accepting the mother’s fears and worries in deepest confidence and find ways to alleviate them. Each year we host a “baby shower” to help support the Gabriel Closet, which is located at the West Warwick satellite for Catholic Charities.  The diapers, clothing, etc. that we collect are distributed to those in need.

Bake Sales:  We have bake sales a couple of times a year to help fund this ministry.

Food Collection:Baskets are located in the vestibule of the church for parishioners to deposit food for the needy.

Gift Cards:During the season of Advent, a Jesse Tree is set up in the church so that parishioners may hang gift cards for grocery or department stores.  These cards are then distributed to those in need.

Collecting for the Homeless: We continually collect hygiene products, socks, hats, gloves, etc. to make “baggies” for the homeless, especially in the wintertime.

Those looking for emergency assistance should contact the West Warwick Satellite office of Catholic Charities at 401-823-6211.
